A Timeline of Pivotal Moments for Clay & Bailey
At the turn of the 20th century, a pair of entrepreneurial engineers, George Clay and Harry Bailey, had an idea that would vastly improve the fuel storage industry. They spent countless unpaid hours designing special fittings for steel fuel tanks – and their talents were soon noticed.
1913
George and Harry strike out on their own and found Clay & Bailey Manufacturing Co.
1916
Clay & Bailey becomes a founding member of the Steel Tank Institute.
1923
The company soon acquires the Morgan Foundry Company and begins muncipal casting, a product line that still exists today.
1951
Clay & Bailey joins the Petroleum Equipment Institute as a founding member.
1960
Addition of a product development department to deliver in-house designs, aluminum foundry casting, machine shop capabilities, and fabrication.
2004
Acquisition of our first CNC machine for our shop.
2016
Recognized with a Kansas City Industrial Council Sustainability Award for LED conversion.
2023
Investment in a Trumpf TrueBend Press Brake and Trumpf TrueLaser.
2025
Clay & Bailey’s leadership continues to scale the business beyond the municipal casting and fuel storage tank markets.
